Camper? Check! Truck? Check!

We started our journey by looking into all the different types of RV’s. A motorhome seemed like the best idea; Everything all in one and you can pull over and stretch without even having to get out! Then we quickly realized that our top priority was to have a room and possibly a bathroom just for the kids! So we moved on to looking into 5th wheels and found the perfect layout for us. There are lots of bunkhouse style campers but a lot of them didn’t have the living room space we needed. The Open Range Roamer has an option to have a large sectional instead of a small couch and dinette so once we saw that we knew that was the exact model for us. Luckily, searching on Facebook Marketplace lead us to the sweetest family that was selling their basically brand new one with everything we were looking for! We saw it for the first time and knew that was the one.

Next up, we needed a truck! Not just any truck, we needed one that could easily pull 12,000+ lbs and fit all 5 of us plus our pets. We searched for a while and found it very hard to find a used F-350 that didn’t already have a ton of miles on it! We reached out to the manager of Crossroads Ford Apex and told him exactly what we were looking for and he was able to get us a brand new 2020 F-350 for the same price as some of the used ones we had looked at!!! It’s a beauty! The people at Crossroads were so helpful and knowledgeable and got us all set up with a bed liner and a 5th wheel hitch and then we were good to go! Side note: the cameras on this thing are AMAZING and there’s even one pointed right at the hitch to help when hooking up to the camper!

And for the moment you’ve all been waiting for…the Trucks name is Flynn Ryder( we call him Eugene) and the camper is Maximus. If you don’t get the names then we can’t be friends…kidding…kinda 😉

Once we get all moved in we will do a quick video of the inside to show everyone around!!

Packing Up!

You know what’s funny? When you think you’re a minimalist and then you have to empty your entire house… A few things have gone to storage[keepsakes, pictures, small furniture we don’t want to part with and stuff the kids won’t get rid of] but a lot of things we have given away/donated/sold! We’ve been extremely thankful for our local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. If you have one where you live you should definitely join. There are always people looking for things or giving things away and it’s always within a certain radius of your house. It makes where you live feel more like a real community.

Moving stuff to the storage unit has actually been pretty fun, the girls love loading the cart and riding the elevator to our unit, especially when we let them ride on the cart! We got a 10×15 thinking we would have tons of room and its quickly filling up!

Writing this post makes me realize how many times the word “things” is used. The last few months have definitely taught us that things just don’t matter. You don’t need 72 chip clips, 200 stuffed animals and 14 hairbrushes! It’s hard for kids to understand what you actually need vs what you want to keep. I think they are getting there though. Our house is much much emptier but somehow everyone is happier and more content than before. Maybe we are on to something 🙂 Maybe all the things we need are actually just each other!
